Works are underway to transform the Shivalaya Yagyaswar Mahadev Mandir in Gelephu into a Golden Mandir, following the command of His Majesty The King. Built in 2018 as a gift from His Majesty, the temple has become an important place of worship and a gathering point for the Hindu community in Sarpang. The transformation will see the mandir adorned with the finest gold available, covering its spire, outer structures and sacred elements, with the vision of creating a radiant landmark in the emerging Gelephu Mindfulness City. An international contribution campaign was launched at the mandir today, drawing devotees and well-wishers who contributed more than Nu 1.6 million on the first day. GMC Governor Dasho Dr Lotay Tshering said the initiative reflects His Majesty’s vision for the temple to become one of the finest of its kind in the world, while community members expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the project. The Golden Mandir is expected to be completed before November 1, when GMC plans to raise 108 Jangchub Chortens in a single day. Together, the two projects represent a remarkable convergence of devotion in Gelephu, with one expressed through gold and the other through stone.
