The Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) and the Olympic Council of Malaysia have signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 in Japan, marking the first formal cooperation agreement between the two national Olympic bodies. Signed on September 20 by BOC President His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck and Malaysian Olympic Council President Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, the partnership establishes a strategic framework for joint training, sports science, technical knowledge exchanges, and the development of athletes and coaches, with early focus on disciplines like archery and badminton. The collaboration aligns with Bhutan’s broader “Ecosystem Upgrade 2.0” initiative, which seeks to strengthen the country’s overall sporting framework by building sustainable coaching systems and long-term athletic pathways alongside immediate competition goals. Occurring as Bhutan’s 13-member delegation competes across archery, athletics, boxing, and taekwondo in Nagoya, the agreement sets the foundation for a lasting partnership designed to elevate high-performance sports capabilities for both nations well into the future.
