The death toll from a school shooting in Thailand’s Nonthaburi province rose to eight on Friday, according to Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. The attack took place at Debsirin Nonthaburi School, located northwest of Bangkok, where over 30 people sustained injuries. Authorities confirmed that nine of the injured remain in critical condition as police and emergency responders continue operations at the scene.
The gunman was identified as a 14-year-old ninth-grade student at the institution who died at the scene. Investigations revealed that before launching the school attack using his grandfather’s firearm, the teenager shot and killed both of his grandparents at his residence, with their bodies included in the total death count. During the incident at the school, the shooter barricaded himself inside, temporarily preventing security forces from clearing the building while teachers rushed to evacuate students and staff.
Prime Minister Anutin expressed deep regret over the tragedy, noting that the suspect appeared well-prepared with a clear sequence of steps and carried over 30 unused rounds of ammunition when found. Initial findings indicate that the student was experiencing severe academic stress prior to the attack. Royal Thai Police have secured the campus premises and initiated a full investigation to establish the complete sequence of events and precise motive behind the shooting.
