
The 117th National Day highlighted the necessity of a well-coordinated legal system, as well as the significance of bolstering democracy, improving legislation, and cultivating a competent populace. Nonetheless, a number of justice-related concerns are anticipated to be addressed by the first-ever Wisdom Centre for Justice at the Jigme Singye Wangchuck School (JSW) of Law in Paro. During the Paro Forum, Princess Sonam Dechan Wangchuck, President of the JSW School of Law, BNLI, and Bar Council of Bhutan, officially opened Bhutan’s Wisdom Centre for Justice. The center will act as the secretariat for the justice sector, encouraging collaboration, coordination, and inclusive involvement between organizations. Additionally, it will offer top-notch research and continuing legal education.
The center wants to offer policy and legal advice while maintaining its financial stability. A white paper endorsing His Majesty’s Diamond Strategy was signed by eleven justice-related organizations. Tshering Tobgay, the prime minister of Bhutan, has commended the JSW School of Law for its founding, saying it will improve the nation’s legal system and involve pertinent institutions from the justice sector. The Wisdom Centre for Justice will be led by chief attorney Ugyen Wangdi, who will concentrate on building a committed workforce, sufficient facilities, and global connections to facilitate knowledge exchange and expertise development.
