
The King attended the Rhododendron Week closing ceremony in Trashigang, showcasing the region’s unique culture and attracting tourists to the region. One of the most botanically varied areas in Bhutan, the Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary contains 41 of the 46 rhododendron species found in the country. Over 13,600 people attended the festival, including 71 foreign guests and 88 local ones, drawn by the breathtaking flower show and the Brokpas culture. There was more to the Rhododendron Week than just flowers. The Trashigang dzongkhag administration organized the community-driven festival in cooperation with nearby communities, government organizations, and schools. The festival promoted rural tourism, income generation, and cultural preservation in eastern Bhutan, featuring local food, handicrafts, and performances, including the Miss Rhododendron Week 2025 pageant.
Over Nu 60,000 was earned by Dorji Wangdi, who also manages a homestay in Merak. Small vendors also profited. Phuntsho Wangdi made more than Nu 70,000 by operating a food booth. According to the event organizers, the town will receive the newly built facilities, which were funded with Nu 7.1 million under the Department of Tourism’s Economic Stimulus Program, guaranteeing long-term advantages. In Trashigang, Rhododendron Week is now planned to become a yearly celebration that honors regional customs, cuisine, and culture.
