From Lhuentse, Sither Lhamo is a skilled weaver. For her work, she was given the Living Legend Award in Weaving Culture. The RTA in Thimphu organized the Weaving Into the Future program. Sither Lhamo spent 76 years learning and conserving the craft after starting to weave at the age of 14. She received the Living Legend Award for the first time. Even with the aid of spectacles, Sither Lhamo is still able to weave. She lost her kid three years ago, and her husband died when she was 35. She has been living alone ever since. She views weaving as more than simply a talent; it is her main source of income and a way of life.
According to the RTA’s director, this award is special since it is given out on a merit-only basis and is not given out every year. It is only given to people whose innovations have endured and had a significant influence on Bhutan’s cultural legacy. Sither Lhamo received a statue of Tshepamey, a certificate, and a monetary award. Sither Lhamo, a weaver and cultural icon, has been instrumental in keeping the Kishuthara weaving tradition alive throughout the nation. The rich history and artistic talent of Bhutanese textiles are reflected in Kishuthara. Through the hand-woven textile industry, the Living Legend Award honors those who have made outstanding contributions to preserving Bhutan’s unique textile legacy and fostering community development.
