Silchar’s Susmit ‘Bob’ Nath has brought laurels to his hometown by winning the Filmfare OTT Award for Best Sound Design for the critically acclaimed web series Stolen (2023). The award was presented on December 15 in Mumbai. Stolen, a gripping thriller starring Abhishek Banerjee, has been praised for its intense storytelling, where sound plays a crucial narrative role. Nath’s work stood out for its restrained background score, layered sound textures and effective use of silence to build tension and emotional depth.
A resident of Vivekananda Road, Silchar, Nath completed his schooling at Silchar Collegiate School and later studied at GC College. He initially pursued music and was associated with a local band before discovering his interest in sound design. Facing financial challenges, he moved to Delhi and worked at a call centre for nearly three years before clearing the FTII entrance exam on his first attempt. He went on to earn a diploma in Sound Recording and Engineering from FTII (2007–2012). Nath has since worked on internationally acclaimed projects, including Oscar-nominated documentaries Writing With Fire and All That Breathes, with his work showcased at Cannes, Sundance, Toronto and Venice.
