After years of hardship due to poor road conditions, around 9,000 residents of Kilkhorthang and Dunglagang gewogs in Tsirang can expect relief as improvement works begin on the Kilkhorthang–Dunglagang dzongkhag road. The Department of Surface Transport started the project in November last year to upgrade the 12-kilometre stretch connecting the two gewogs.
The road, which was first blacktopped nearly a decade ago, had severely deteriorated due to potholes, worn-out blacktop and inadequate drainage systems. Ongoing works include widening narrow and sharp curves, constructing proper drainage and building retention walls. The project is scheduled for completion by July this year.
Residents say the improved road will cut travel time by about 30 minutes and reduce vehicle maintenance costs. The government has allocated nearly Nu 70 million for the project, making it the second dzongkhag road in Tsirang upgraded after the Department took over road management in 2024.
