Agency: Preparations are in full swing for the upcoming Global Peace Prayer (Monlam Chhenmo) to be held at Changlimithang Stadium and Buddha Point from 4th to 10th November 2025. The large-scale spiritual gathering, expected to bring together thousands of devotees and monks, is being organized with coordinated efforts from various agencies and volunteers.
President of the Centre for Bhutan and GNH Studies, Dasho Karma Ura, said that it is a blessing for the country to host such a sacred event where many Rinpoches, masters, monk and devotees will gather to pray for world peace. He shared that although only about three weeks remain, preparations are progressing steadily with strong support from different sectors.
So far, 75 Rinpoches have confirmed to attend the Monlam Chhenmo and 7 masters’ confirmation are pending.
To ensure comfort for all participants, temporary washrooms and other essential infrastructures are being set up at both venues. Dasho Karma Ura mentioned that the team aims to complete all the necessary works within 15 days. Desuups, army personnel, and other workers are working tirelessly day and night to make the event a success.
Organizers estimate that nearly 13,000 people will attend the prayer event, with over 6,000 participants from Thimphu alone. The exact number of attendees from other dzongkhags and abroad remains uncertain, as many tourists, monks, and rinpoches are also expected to join. Rough estimates suggest that around 300 spiritual guests will attend from within and outside the country.
Dasho Karma Ura said that their main focus is to ensure that everyone attending the Monlam Chhenmo feels comfortable and spiritually fulfilled. “If people are comfortable and happy during the event, then we will be truly glad,” he shared.
The main events within the festival are Jabzhi Dhoechog (November 4-10, 2025) at Kuenselphodrang, Public Blessings (November 10) at Changlimithang Stadium and Recitation of Bazaguru (November 11, 2025) at Changlimithang Stadium.
There is also a Kalachakra Initiation and Empowerment (November 12-14, 2025) at Changlimithang Stadium.
There is also a Nuns’ Ordination (November 15-19, 2025) at the Training and Resource Centre of the Bhutan Nuns Foundation (BNF), Tshalumaphey, Thimphu.
In addition to the prayers, the festival will feature an exhibition of Kalachakra art and artifacts and scholarly seminars on Kalachakra.
