The Zangdopelri neighborhood is the primary focus of the ongoing redevelopment project to revamp the center of Phuentsholing. The goal is to improve the overall experience for tourists from both inside and outside of Bhutan by pedestrianizing the entire Zangdopelri area up to the pedestrian terminal. The revitalization of the Zangdopelri neighborhood is a component of Phuentsholing’s larger urban design plan, which was developed in 2017, according to Phuentsholing Thromde. The current project is the first phase of the plan, which focuses on improving pedestrian infrastructure and facilities to enhance the town’s aesthetics and visitor experience.
The thromde added, excluding the cost of utility ducts, installing asphalt in the area would have cost roughly Nu 2 million. The work around the Zangdopelri area is anticipated to be finished in two months, while the overall road resurfacing project in the core town is planned to take five months. It is anticipated that the groundwork will be finished by the end of March this year, having started in January. The thromde addressed public concerns about the disruption caused by the ongoing work, pointing out that it was especially bad for local businesses and the general public. The public was reassured by the thromde that it is thinking about completing the work more quickly. Thromde went on to explain that the current projects are intended to enhance the local economy and the town’s long-term growth.
