Global leaders have initiated the Global Conscious Food Systems Summit 2026, aiming to integrate values, culture, happiness, and consciousness into food systems transformation. This launch event, organized by the Royal Government of Bhutan and the Conscious Food Systems Alliance (CoFSA) in partnership with the UN Development Programme (UNDP), gathered over 500 participants and set the stage for the Summit scheduled for August 31 to September 4, 2026, in Paro, Bhutan. Key speakers included Bhutan’s Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay, UNDP’s Haoliang Xu, and other prominent figures advocating for a shift in food systems towards a holistic approach that considers culture and wellbeing alongside traditional policy frameworks.
The Summit is positioned as a “living laboratory” to incorporate regenerative practices and traditional knowledge while emphasizing the importance of values and collective responsibility in food systems, addressing broader issues such as climate change and biodiversity loss. UNDP representatives highlighted the necessity for transformative mindsets and an urgent focus on the interconnected crises impacting global food systems, stating that merely relying on technology is insufficient to resolve these challenges. Ultimately, the Summit aims to unite various stakeholders—including policymakers, farmers, and indigenous leaders—to cultivate a Framework for Conscious Food Systems, promoting a shared vision and practical recommendations for collective action in shaping a sustainable food future.
