From February 18 to 20, the speaker of the National Assembly will represent Bhutan at the 15th APA Plenary in Baku, Azerbaijan. “The Role of Parliamentary Diplomacy in Strengthening Multilateral Cooperation in Asia” is the theme for the APA Plenary. It is anticipated that speakers from more than ten nations will be among the delegations from more than 30 parliaments and international organizations. The APA gives lawmakers a forum to share opinions, concepts, and experiences in order to create shared plans for advancing world and Asian peace. Along with promoting communication between lawmakers and civil society organizations, it also encourages collaboration and coordination among Asian lawmakers to protect humanitarian values, human rights, and peace. Kinzang Wangchuk, a member of parliament for Drametse-Ngatshang, and other government representatives accompany the speaker.
The Bhutanese delegation will take part in a number of high-level meetings with potential candidates for the 2026–2027 term of the APA Presidency. The National Assembly Secretariat claims that Bhutan’s involvement in the APA will offer a chance to advance the nation’s views on sustainable development and peace, advocate for Bhutan’s priorities in regional cooperation, and fortify bilateral and multilateral ties. The four Standing Committees’ resolutions and potential new members will be discussed at this year’s APA Plenary. The Baku Declaration and the APA Secretariat’s final report will be adopted at the conclusion of the meeting. The Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace was founded in 1999, and at its seventh session in 2006, APA was created.
