Voith Hydro has secured a contract to supply and install electromechanical equipment for Bhutan’s 90 MW Jomori Hydropower Project, marking another milestone in the company’s expansion in the country’s renewable energy sector. The contract was awarded by Druk Hydro Energy Limited (DHyE), a subsidiary of Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC). Located in Samdrup Jongkhar in southeastern Bhutan, the project will feature two 45 MW generating units equipped with vertical Pelton turbines. The development is expected to strengthen Bhutan’s renewable energy infrastructure and support its long-term energy needs.
Under the agreement, Voith Hydro will be responsible for the design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the turbines, generators and associated balance-of-plant equipment. The project is being financed through a concessional loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Through this initiative, Voith Hydro aims to further strengthen its partnership with Bhutan’s hydropower sector while contributing to reliable and sustainable electricity generation. The project also reflects Bhutan’s continued focus on developing renewable energy resources to support economic growth and energy security.
