The Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) initiative has set in motion plans for a major infrastructure upgrade of the Central Regional Referral Hospital in Gelephu, addressing persistent structural defects including cracked walls, water leakage, damaged ceilings, and outdated plumbing and electrical systems. Initially inaugurated in 2018 as a 150-bed facility serving six southern districts, the hospital currently faces spatial constraints in critical units like medical storage and traditional medicine, raising both functional and safety concerns among local residents as the region prepares for increased visitor inflows. GMC has initiated the consultant selection process to execute a comprehensive technical assessment of the facility’s structural integrity, medical gas networks, fire safety systems, and infection control layouts, with the selected firm tasked with designing a phased renovation strategy that keeps essential clinical operations running uninterrupted. Once a consultant is officially appointed, the design and tendering phase is projected to take six months, marking a crucial step toward bringing regional healthcare infrastructure in line with the standards of the expanding Mindfulness City.
