Bhutanese ultramarathon runner Jigme Tenzin has completed the country’s legendary Snowman Trek in just five days, covering 268.04 kilometres across some of Bhutan’s highest and most challenging mountain trails. The trek typically takes 25 to 30 days to finish.
Known as the ‘Mountain Man,’ the 39-year-old trail runner undertook the feat not only to set a fastest known time but also to document the impacts of climate change in the Himalayas and highlight the lives of Bhutan’s remote highland communities. A documentary on his journey is currently in production.
Jigme, who works as a flight dispatcher with Drukair, Bhutan’s national airline, is now preparing to represent Bhutan at the Courmayeur–Champex–Chamonix (CCC) race, part of the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) World Series Finals, on August 28. He will be the only Bhutanese athlete competing in the 100-kilometre race across Italy, Switzerland, and France.
Jigme qualified for the prestigious event after an impressive performance at the UTMB World Series Major in Thailand in December 2025, where he finished 41st overall in the 100-kilometre race. He credited his family, friends, and supporters for helping him achieve one of the world’s toughest high-altitude endurance challenges.
