Bhutan has unveiled its ambitious “Digital Druk” program, aiming to digitize all government services by 2030. The plan includes online citizen ID services, e-health records, and digital payment systems across ministries.
Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay stated that the initiative will make Bhutan more efficient and transparent while reducing paperwork and corruption.
The project is being developed with support from India’s Digital Public Infrastructure model, showcasing regional cooperation in digital transformation. Officials from India’s Ministry of Electronics and IT welcomed the collaboration, saying it would strengthen cross-border digital partnerships.
Citizens have already started accessing online land records and tax services through new mobile apps.
Experts say Bhutan’s approach could serve as a model for other small nations aiming for sustainable digital governance.
