Agency: Bhutan has marked a historic sporting achievement after a Bhutanese athlete, Chencho, secured a bronze medal at the 57th Asian Bodybuilding & Physique Sport Championship 2025 held in Thailand.
Chencho earned third place in the Men’s Athletic Physique Over 182cm category, making him the first Bhutanese athlete to reach the podium in this prestigious continental event. His success comes after three days of intense competition, where some of Asia’s best athletes displayed strength, discipline, and endurance.
Bhutan was represented by four athletes at the tournament. While each competitor gave their best performance, Chencho’s podium finish has brought a new level of recognition to the country’s bodybuilding community.
Speaking after his victory, an emotional Chencho dedicated his medal to the nation.
“This medal it is not just mine. It belongs to Bhutan. To the people who inspired me, my family, my wife who stood by me every step of the way, and my two little beautiful daughters. When I was on that stage, I thought of home, our people, our mountains, our prayer flags in the wind. That thought gave me strength. Today, I do not stand here for myself… I stand here for Bhutan,” Chencho said.
Officials from the Bhutan Bodybuilding and Weightlifting Federation (BBWLF) hailed the achievement as a turning point for the sport in the country. A spokesperson said, “Chencho’s medal proves that Bhutan can compete at the highest levels in Asia. It is a proud day for our athletes, and we hope this inspires more youth to take bodybuilding seriously.”
Support and celebration have also poured in from across Bhutan. Social media timelines have been filled with congratulatory messages, with many praising Chencho’s perseverance and dedication. His medal is being seen not only as a personal triumph but also as a national achievement that reflects Bhutan’s growing presence in international sports.
