ITPL, in collaboration with government and private entities, has introduced four new courses to enhance public health, workplace safety, caregiving quality, and telecommunication networks in Bhutan. Responsible Service of Alcoholic Beverages program in Bhutan aims to promote responsible alcohol consumption, especially in the hospitality industry. It also focuses on ethical caregiving for the elderly and disabled. The program is designed to provide quality support rather than clinical training. Alcohol consumption remains a pressing issue, with high rates in Lhuentse and Trashigang, and 9,717 active alcohol-selling establishments in Bhutan.
Bhutan has issues with workplace safety as well. 26% of workplace accidents occur as a result of dangerous construction conditions, such as working at heights, using machinery, and handling hazardous chemicals. The issue is exacerbated by a lack of awareness, poor reporting, and lax enforcement of regulations. According to ITPL’s head of operations, Jurmey Thinley, the OHS course supports government initiatives to improve training, compliance, and enforcement. Through site visits and hands-on instruction, the course enables participants to hone their skills in accident investigation, record-keeping, and emergency preparedness. There are little course costs even though ITPL is not a public-private partnership. To guarantee accessibility, a structured payment plan will be implemented.
