
In an effort to increase awareness, motivate action, and secure funding to safeguard these frozen assets, ICIMOD collaborated with UNESCO, UNESCAP, and the Asia-Pacific Forum to host a number of virtual events during yesterday’s IYGP launch. Through member nations sharing common problems and solutions, the initiative aims to advance international collaboration and funding for the protection of glaciers, snow, and permafrost in the HKH region.
In a major step toward the preservation of glaciers, the UN General Assembly designated March 21 as World Day for Glaciers and 2025 as IYGP.
