The Haa-Samtse Secondary National Highway is seeking for long-term road improvements as periodic landslides continue to restrict access. During the rainy season, the 77-kilometer length of the Haa-Samtse SNH has seen frequent road closures. Although people have long desired a stable road, the funding granted for this fiscal year are limited to a DPR from Latsona to Putsena. The DPR is nearing completion. However, some problematic parts remain unpaved, impeding connectivity and creating risks to passengers. According to Chief Engineer Chador Gyeltshen, the proposed realignment begins at the Yangtsina junction, near the Amochhu Bridge.
Residents have noticed substantial changes as a result of the highway extension, such as the rise of new businesses, enhanced amenities, and greater tourism. Chador Gyeltshen stated that the 38.5-kilometer improvement from Latsona to Putsena is expected to cost Nu 471.98 million. During his recent visit, Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay told his constituents that the government will prioritize road connectivity. He also promised to speed up road expansion work for the Haa-Samtse and Damchu-Haa Highways, transforming Haa into a thriving tourist destination that will assist local residents. The Amochhu Bridge, built in 2017, is an important link for the Gakiling and Sangbaykha gewogs, who rely on reliable road connectivity to sustain their villages and enhance local economic growth.
