Bhutanese diplomatic missions around the world joined citizens at home in marking the 118th National Day on 17 December 2025, celebrating the nation’s shared values of unity, identity, and cultural heritage. A unifying feature of the commemorations was the live broadcast of His Majesty The King’s National Day Address from Bumthang, which served as the focal point of celebrations across continents.
In New Delhi, officials and staff of the Royal Bhutanese Embassy, together with their families, observed the day with a flag hoisting ceremony and the live telecast of the Royal Address. In the evening, Ambassador Major General Vetsop Namgyel and Aum Daw Zam hosted a formal reception at the Embassy, attended by India’s Minister for Culture and Tourism, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, as Chief Guest, along with senior Indian officials, diplomats, representatives of international organisations, and friends of Bhutan. The programme featured a cultural performance by a Bhutanese band and the launch of the 22nd edition of Window on Bhutan 2025.
In Kolkata, the Royal Bhutanese Consulate General held a reception on 16 December, graced by senior officials of the West Bengal Government, members of the consular corps, and the Bhutanese community. National Day observances continued with traditional ceremonies and the Royal Address, complemented by a blood donation drive organised by the Bhutanese community and DeSuup volunteers.
In Guwahati, celebrations included the inauguration of a Bhutan Shop showcasing authentic Bhutanese products, symbolising growing trade and people-to-people ties with Northeast India. Similar commemorations were held in Geneva, Dhaka, Canberra, Bangkok, Brussels, and across Western Australia, featuring religious rites, cultural performances, community gatherings, official receptions, and award ceremonies. Collectively, these events reflected Bhutan’s enduring spirit, respect for the Monarchy, and commitment to friendship and cooperation with the international community.
