During the 118th National Day celebrations, His Majesty The King presented National Day Awards to Bhutanese citizens and international friends in appreciation of their exceptional service, sacrifice, and lasting contributions to the nation. Karma Kelvin Dorji received the National Order of Merit (Bronze) for his selfless volunteer work. A social worker from Trashi Yangtse, he has dedicated himself to supporting elderly people, persons with disabilities, individuals struggling with addiction, and vulnerable families, while using social media to mobilize public support and expand community assistance centers nationwide.
The National Order of Merit (Silver) was awarded posthumously to the late Tshering Penjor for his heroic sacrifice in Australia, where he lost his life while saving two children from drowning. His medal was accepted by his father on behalf of the family.
Several individuals were honoured with the National Order of Merit (Gold) for lifelong service. Educators Tshewang Choden Wangdi and Kiran Sunda were recognized for shaping generations through education, while Lhadrip Ugyen Nima was honoured for preserving Bhutan’s cultural heritage. Ujjwal Deep Dahal was acknowledged for leadership in economic and digital development. International friends were also honoured for their enduring support to Bhutan. The Druk Thuksey Medal was awarded to Dr Tay Eng Hseon and Dasho Kinley Dorji for their significant contributions to healthcare and media.
